AMANDA
Amanda never shied away challenge during her time at Village Glen High School. She persevered through emotional and social struggles and took every AP class that was offered to her. Not only did she excel academically, but she proved herself to be a leader with a positive attitude and kind heart. She served on the Village Glen High School Student Council, was a key member of the Academic Decathlon team, organized student clubs, and was a role model and pillar of support for her peers. Amanda graduated in 2021 and is currently enrolled at Mission College.
Michael’s journey at Village Glen began in middle school. Michael has a love of learning and always worked to find ways to succeed in his classes. And although Michael was an exemplary student, he often struggled with finding ways to balance his academics with other activities. With support and encouragement Michael expanded his interests and found a love of performance art. He competed as a member of the school’s Odyssey of the Mind team, became an accomplished vocalist in the school’s choir and played starring roles on several theatrical and musical performances. Michael graduated in 2021 and is attending Cal Lutheran University.

EBONY
Ebony came to us as a young middle school student who was timid, closed off, would not self-advocate, and whose previous school had reported that her learning challenges were so significant that they did not anticipate her being able to make any meaningful gains. They actually recommended that she receives an alternate curriculum in place of a diploma bound education. We recall observing Ebony and knowing that she could do more. We worked with the team and accepted her into Village Glen West in Culver City where we started with remediation and intervention. She made good progress in all her academics and began to come out of her shell. She joined theater productions, talent shows, student council, and began to use her voice to advocate for herself and others. She was always a natural leader and a student others gravitated to. We are proud to report that following her graduation from Village Glen High School, Ebony graduated from college and is now the Corporate Director and Advocate of Traveler Concerns at a non-profit. They specialize in offering local, national and international travel to ambulatory adults that need extra assistance as a result of head trauma, stroke, and intellectual developmental disabilities (IDD).
Sam is a committed, compassionate, and driven young man and is a proud member of Village Glen High School’s graduating class of 2020. A bright and dedicated learner with High Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder, Sam came to Village Glen at the end of his 8th grade year and found himself having to overcome significant challenges with social perception, impulsivity, and emotional management. With the support of others around him, Sam persevered and did everything he could to be the best version of himself. He successfully enrolled in AP courses, became an award-winning member of the high school’s Academic Decathlon team, and consistently worked to maintain a GPA well above 4.0. Additionally, Sam made many lasting friendships and developed trusted and supportive relationships with both peers and adults. Because of this initiative and determination, Sam was honored as his class Valedictorian and is now attending a UC school where he is continuing to meet his goals of growing and learning.
