All schools of The Help Group are nut free zones. The reason for this policy is that there
are a significant number of students in attendance that have severe nut allergies. If
exposed to nuts, these students could develop life-threatening allergic reactions that
require emergency medical treatment.

Please do not send any nuts or products containing nuts for your child to eat during
nutrition in the classroom or at lunch. Any exposure to nuts through contact or ingestion
can cause a severe reaction. If your child has eaten nuts prior to coming to school, please
be sure your child’s hands have been thoroughly washed prior to entering the school.
Healthy snacks and treats are available at our student operated cafés and stores, such
as nut-free granola bars, muffins, and juices. You can participate in helping us promote
healthy eating among our students by sending healthy snacks.

We appreciate your support of this policy. If you have any questions or comments please
feel free to contact the school administration.

Student owned electronic devices are not to be used at any time or out during school
hours unless authorized by staff. These include (but are not limited to) cell phones,
Tablets/iPads, gaming devices, smart watches, personal laptops, etc.
Except for those prearranged times which have been authorized by the teacher, cell
phones and electronic devices must be off and secured in students’ backpacks.

Students may not take pictures, audio recordings, and/or video recordings of any other
students or staff without written consent from the other students and from their parents,
and without written consent from the staff. Failure to abide by this policy will result in
disciplinary action up to and including expulsion. This rule applies to when the
student is on school transportation as well as during the school day.
The ringing or vibration of the cell phone during class or text messaging takes away
the valuable time needed for instruction, and most importantly for student learning.

We do recognize that cell phones can be a safety/security tool; however, they can be
a detriment in the event of a building emergency and hinder our protocol to manage
such emergencies in a safe and effective manner. Therefore, it is imperative that
you not call or text your child during the school day. Our policy for emergency
contact is that you call (818) 781-0360 and ask to have your child's administrator
contacted. He or she will do his or her best to relay any urgent information to your
child.

If a student exhibits the unauthorized use of a cell phone or electronic device, the
consequences will be as follows:
1. 1st Offense: The cell phone or electronic device will be confiscated, placed
in a labeled envelope, and secured in the office until the end of the day.
Student will sign for the cell phone or the electronic device at the end of the
day.
2. 2nd Offense:The cell phone or electronic device will be confiscated, placed in
a labeled envelope and secured in the office. A parent or guardian will sign
for the cell phone or electronic device following a meeting with the parent, the
student and the school administrator.
3. A student that refuses to comply with the request by any member of the
faculty or staff or administrator to surrender his or her cell phone or electronic
device will be subject to additional disciplinary action.
